Volunteers Read Across the Globe

Hundreds of business, school and faith-based volunteers read to more than 4,700 elementary students in Spring Branch ISD classrooms on Oct. 19 as part of Read Across the Globe, an ambitious effort to set a Guinness World Record in reading.

Eighth-grader Publishes Article on Major Astronomer

Clay Parenti, a Westchester Academy for International Studies eighth-grader, has published an article about Johannes Kepler, a 17th century German mathematician and astronomer, in a recent issue of “Guidestar,” the newsletter of the Houston Astronomical Society.

Pinwheels for Peace Spin Across School Lawns

Wilchester and Rummel Creek elementary schools coordinated a Pinwheels for Peace art and literacy project to mark International Peace Day on Sept. 21. Four district elementary schools reported Pinwheels for Peace projects. They include Woodview and Terrace elementary schools.

Toro, the Houston Texans team mascot, visited several SBISD elementary schools during September. At every school stop, the professional football team mascot had simple, but powerful “Get Fit with Toro” messages.
